Theodore Klopsis, Sr.

Theodore “Ted” Klopsis Sr., 78, of King George County passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013, in King George.
Ted was born in Connecticut and was a retired employee with the Dept. of Navy in Indian Head, MD, a former co-owner of Spiro’s Sporting Goods in King George, a U.S. Army veteran and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Wilbur Willis Slaughter, Sr.

Wilbur Willis Slaughter, Sr., a lifelong resident of Mullins, S.C. passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Westmoreland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Colonial Beach, where he was lovingly, attentively and professionally cared for by the staff for the past 5 years. Following the death of his beloved daughter, Joan Slaughter Quinn, Columbia, S.C. in June 2008, he moved to the home of his son, Willis (Pam) Slaughter in Colonial Beach.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Willie Gertrude McDonald of Columbia; his parents Ida Mae Smith Slaughter of Mullins, S.C. and John Kerr Graves Slaughter of Danville; 2 sisters, a brother; and most of his very large family in Mullins.

He is survived by his son and and loving daughter-in-law, Willis and Pam Slaughter of Colonial Beach; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces; 5 nephews and 3 remaining first cousins.

He loved his God, his Church, his family, his friends, his home, his home town, people, music, fishing and his garden. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, Military Police Battalion, Intelligence Company D, AGF Replacement Depot # 1, Ft. Meade, MD.

Funeral arrangements are by Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George and Lee Funeral Home, S.C.

Graveside services were held in the Cedardale Cemetery, Mullins, S.C. on Saturday, April 6. The Rev. Kem Thomas, Macedonia United Methodist Church, Mullins, officiated the service

Frisco T. Telmo

Frisco T. Telmo, 84, formerly of King George County, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, in Malibay, Pasay City, Philippines.

Frisco was born Oct. 13, 1928, in San Nicolas, Pangasinan, Philippines. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1949 and resided in California. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1960.

He moved to Virginia in 1971 to work for the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren and retired in 1994. While employed at NSWC, he was a volunteer tutor at King George High School, and he received two patent awards for inventions.

Frisco was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in King George. He was a resident of King George County for almost 40 years, prior to moving back to the Philippines in 2010.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Telmo; children Jeffrey Telmo, Genevieve Carter, Ariel Telmo, Florence Telmo and Andrea Telmo; grandchildren Jeffrey, Marlon, Brandon, Russell, Danielle and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren Angel and Justin; stepchildren Winona McClung, Jasmin Protacio, Oliver Orilla, Norman Orilla and Theresa Orilla; and his siblings, Betty Corpus, Salvador Telmo, Romulo Telmo and Perla Salazar.

A Mass of intention for Frisco will be celebrated at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in King George.

LaToi Rene Pace

LaToi Rene “Toi” Pace, 37, of Stafford County passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, in King George County. She passed away while sleeping; the cause of death is unknown.

LaToi was born Jan. 6, 1976, and raised in Stafford County. She was baptized at Union Bell Baptist Church in Falmouth on Nov. 23, 1976, under the pastorship of the Rev. Johnny Abram.

She is survived by her daughter, Dominique, and her mother, Nancy Pace, of Stafford; two sisters, Belinda Pace of Stafford and Treva Scroggins of Durham, NC; and brother Jesse Hodge Jr.

The viewing was held on Friday, April 5, at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home in Fredericksburg.

The funeral was held on Saturday, April 6, at Union Bell Baptist Church, 405 Hollywood Farm Road, Falmouth. Pastor Clarence E. Mays will give the eulogy. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Evelyn M. King

Evelyn M. King, 84, of King George County passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.
She was a homemaker, lifelong resident of King George and the widow of John Harwood King.

Evelyn is survived by a son, John H. King Jr. (Bobbe), of King George; one grandchild; and two stepgrandchildren.

The family received friends Wednesday, March 27, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, followed by a service.
Interment followed in the Morgan Family cemetery in King George.

Robert L. Lucas, Sr.

Robert L. Lucas Sr., 77, of Colonial Beach died Monday, April 1, 2013, at his home with his family by his side.

Robert was born and raised in King George County, a son of the late Virginia and Abraham Lucas. He was a construction worker for more than 25 years in the District of Columbia. He then worked for A.B. Walker & Sons for more than 15 years.

Survivors include three sons, Larry J. Lucas, Lonnie L. Lucas and Robert L. Lucas Jr.; eight daughters, Addie V. Lucas, Debbie L. Lucas, Julie M. Lucas, Leona M. Lucas, Donna L. Lucas, Manya L. Ball, Monica A. Rosier and Helena D. Jacobs; two sisters, Mildred V. Lucas and Gloria M. Roy; brother Harrison Maurice Lucas; brother-in-law Lewis Clay Davis; four sons-in-law, Zachary Rosier, Tyrone Jacobs, Joseph Ball and William Hill; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Davis Lucas.

A funeral was held on Thursday, April 4, at Lee Funeral Home in King George.

Marjorie W. Britton

Marjorie Wiley Britton, 85, of King George County went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Dogue.

Mary Louise Taylor

Mary Louise “Nannie” Taylor, 83, of King George County, formerly of Essex County, departed this life on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Heritage Hall Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in King George.

She is survived by devoted nieces Virgie Harris, Phyllis Washington, Patricia Smith, Lisa Corbin, Laceshia Washington and Geneva Washington; devoted nephews Donnell Taylor and Robert Taylor; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

A viewing was held on Friday, April 5, at Washington Funeral Home, 1404 Tappahannock Blvd., Tappahannock.

A funeral was held Saturday, April 6, at First Baptist Church in Loretto, with Bishop Darryl K. Williams, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Anne S. Lumpkin

Anne S. Lumpkin, 79, of Fredericksburg passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Emeritus at Wilburn Gardens.

Mrs. Lumpkin had worked for 41 years at Farmers & Merchants Bank and First Virginia Bank. She was a loving and caring person who took care of her family and friends.

Survivors include her son, James G. Lumpkin Jr. (Dora Lee), of King George County; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Lumpkin.

A service was held on Monday, April 8, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Shirley M. Carr Hartman

Shirley M. Carr Hartman, age 75, of Joliet, IL, formerly of King George, VA & Chicago, is at rest with the Angels, having passed on Sunday, March 3, 2013, surrounded by many family members.

Born on Sept. 9, 1937, Shirley was the loving Mom of Roy Kutsy of Maryville, TN, Robert Kutsy (Carolyn) of Joliet, Debra Damon (Andrew) of King George, Vicki Parker-Black (Brian) of Lafayette, IN and Dawn Harder (John) of Orland Park, IL; cherished Grandma of Cassandra, Joseph, Katrina, Sarah, Brian, Jennifer, Joshua, Robert and the late Clinton John; caring Great-Grandmother of Layla; dearest Daughter of the late Royal Earl & Liberty Louise Carr; fond Sister of Marian Phillips, Bill and the late Frank and John Carr; also survived by many nieces & nephews.

Shirley was a U.S. Navy Veteran who proudly served as a Hospital Corpsman in the late 1950’s, as well as a long-time employee of Marshall Field’s and Carson, Pirie, Scott, both in downtown Chicago. She enjoyed reading, music, camping, gardening, traveling, puzzles and hand-crafts but loved caring for God’s animals. Psalm 148.

The family received friends on March 6 at Zarzycki Manor Chapel in Willow Springs, IL. A funeral service was held on March 7 with military honors, and interment following in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
