Lillian Marie Stone

Lillian Marie Stone, 72, of Stafford County passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Survivors include her sons, Michael R. Stone of Stafford, Tracy W. Stone of King George and Kevin J. Stone of Alexandria; grandchildren Brandon M., Brittany, Alexander C., Rebecca V. and Ryan T. Stone; brother Herman Jett of Stafford; and sister Judy Henderson of Stafford.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Stone.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, March 12, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Barbara Wiltshire Sullivan

Barbara Wiltshire Sullivan, 77, of Stafford County passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at her home surrounded by family.

For 44 years, Mrs. Sullivan was a beloved member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was active in many ministries and taught Sunday school. She was a faithful servant of God, and was especially known for sending cards to family, friends and acquaintances for every occasion. Her favorite scripture is found in Philippians 4:13, which reads, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her husband of 56 years, Roland R. Sullivan; and by her son, Gary W. Sullivan (Kendra). She is also survived by three grandsons, Richard A. Sullivan of Fredericksburg, Daniel W. Sullivan of Charlotte, NC, and Anthony B. “Tony” Sullivan of Hampton; three nieces, Carol Samuels, Eileen Grimes and Jean Skidmore; and one nephew, Irvin Childress.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nola D. Wiltshire and her father, Ellis G. “Happy” Wiltshire, of Orange County; and two sisters, Frances W. Childress and Anna Mae Payne.

A celebration of her life was conducted by the Rev. Jim Davidson, Friday, March 1, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Entombment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery Mausoleum. Pallbearers were Richard Sullivan, Tony Armentrout, R.D. Samuels, Steven Skidmore, Irvin Childress and Charles “Bootsie” Bullock.

Isabell H. Jones

Isabell H. Jones, 82, of Lexington Park, Md., passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, in Fort Washington, Md.

She is survived by one daughter, Carleen James (Douglas) of Fort Washington; three sons, Charles L. Jones (Louise) of Clinton, MD, Raymond Jones (Annie) of Colonial Beach and Dennis Jones of Lexington Park; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Roberta Hickman of Washington, DC.

A viewing will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal, and one hour prior to the service at the church. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Little Zion Baptist Church, Oak Grove, with the Rev. Earl Howerton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ruth Althea Monroe

Ruth Althea Monroe, 75, of King George County passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.

She is survived by four sons, Antwan Holton of Waldorf, MD, Kelsey Monroe of Winston-Salem, NC, James Monroe (Ren) of Colonial Beach and Thomas “T-Bird” Monroe of King George; three daughters, Rene Ballard of Stafford County, Shirrelle Berkeley of Chesterfield and Jacqueline Kay of Spotsylvania; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Brown of King George and Donald Brown of Spotsylvania; and two sisters, Vertalia Brown of King George and Joyanne May of Washington, DC.

A viewing will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal and one hour prior to the service at the church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Antioch Baptist Church in King George, where a service will be held at 1 p.m, Thursday, March 7, with Dr. Larry Finch officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in King George.

Cory Neville Radley

Cory Neville Radley, 20, of King George County passed away Monday, March 4, 2013 at home.

Cory was currently attending the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. He was a graduate of Fredericksburg Academy and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, King George.

He is survived by his parents, Vincent and Karen Radley of the home; his maternal grandparents, Frank and Phyllis Correia of Los Banos, Calif.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 5486 St. Paul’s Road, King George, VA, 22485. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Jasper Bell

Jasper Bell, 77, of Camp Springs, MD, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Charlotte Hall Veterans Nursing Home in Charlotte Hall, NC.

He is survived b his wife, Sammie Bell of Clinton, MD; daughter Pamela Bell-Pitts; and four sons, Kenneth Robinson, Ronald Bell, the Rev. Dr. Michael T. Bell of King George County and Douglas Bell of Waldorf, MD.
A funeral was held on Friday, Feb. 22, at East Friendship Baptist Church, Washington, DC, with the Rev. Melvin M. Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in March.

William G. Powell

William “Bill” G. Powell, 78, of Colonial Beach passed away Tuesday. Feb. 26, 2013, at home.

Bill was a retired builder and the widower of Shirley J. Powell.

He is survived by three daughters, Susie Perez of Harrisburg, PA, Dawn Zimmerman of King George County and Tina Heath of Charlottesville; two brothers, Joe Powell of Colonial Beach and Leonard Powell of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Bill’s family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George with a memorial service beginning at 3 p.m. officiated by the Rev. Richard Headley. Burial will be private.

Elva E. Blakley

Elva E. Blakley, 83, of King George County passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at her home surrounded by her children.

Mrs. Blakley was a member of the Patawomeck Indian Tribe. She was an avid quilt maker and loved Friday night bingo with her husband and friends. Mrs. Blakley was a very generous person.

Survivors include son William E. Blakley (Debbie) and daughters Bonny B. Newton (D.P.) and Martha Blakley, all of King George; brothers Delma Bullock of Frederiskburg and “Pappy,” Jack, “Bowlegs” and Dootsie Bullock and Clyde and Spencer Jett, all of Stafford County; sisters Kathy Harding, Lane Holland and Carol Coffey, all of Stafford and Boodie Brown of KY; grandchildren Kim Madison (Calvin Lee), Chip Blakley (Jen), Kaylan Maxey (Dennis) and Beau Price (Deanna); and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband William H. Blakley; son Mathew Blakley; and sister Peggy Sullivan.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Frankie Stevens, Wayne DeShazo, Billy Buchholz, Ronald DeShazo, Jimmie Blakley and Steve Dempsey.

Selestine Allen Jeter

Selestine Everetta Allen Jeter, 53, formerly of King George, Virginia, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, in Dumfries, Virginia.

She was born November 3, 1959, in King George County VA, to the Late Bernard D. Allen and Flossie C. Allen.
Selestine accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined Salem Baptist Church at an early age.

She received her education in the King George County public school system. After reaching adulthood, she left King George and moved to Amelia, VA where she resided for several years and then later moved to Washington, DC. She returned to her hometown to reside in 2006.

Selestine received her nursing certificate and was employed as a Nurse’s Aide taking care of the elderly in nursing homes for many years. She served as an usher and a missionary and was an active member of the Women of Salem’s Decorating Committee until she became too ill to perform her duties.

Selestine had a few favorite past times. She loved to shop for shoes. DSW was her favorite place to go. She also loved watching the golden girls on television and calling up her niece discussing the latest episodes. Selestine had a serious passion for food! She loved eating crabs during the summer with her sisters, and loved to participate in different functions at church and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two loving sons, Antoine Jeter (Abby) of Dumfries, and Jason Jeter (Sheena) of Riverdale, MD; seven grandchildren, Rochelle, Caitlin, MacKenzie, Bryce, Tatum, Jason Jr, and Jamere; five dear sisters, Debra Allen, of Washington, DC, Micki Allen, Peggy Allen, Pamela Allen and Carrie Rich, all of King George; two brothers, Howard Allen, of Rappahannock Academy and Earl Allen of Dillwyn, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, March 6, at Salem Baptist Church, King George, with the Rev. Leonard G. Bland delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mary Harris

Mary Harris, 88, of King George County, formerly of Washington, DC, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 in a Maryland nursing home.

She is survived by five sons, Wallace Harris Jr., Noland Harris (Hazel) of King George, Roland Harris, Kimball Harris and Kelly Harris; a daughter, Elinder Mitchell; and 12 grandchildren.

A funeral was held on Monday, Feb. 25, at Bibleway Church in Washington, DC. Burial was in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Suitland, MD.

Virginia G. Brooks

Virginia G. Brooks, 79, of King George County died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.
She is survived by three sons, Michael Brooks of Fredericksburg, Boydton Brooks of Culpeper County, and Ronnie Brooks of King George; daughter Wanda Brooks of Fredericksburg; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister Shirley Whiting of King George.

A visitation was held Monday, Feb. 25 at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home in Port Royal.

The funeral was held on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Antioch Baptist Church in King George, with Dr. Larry Rinch officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Kenneth McDonald Stepney

Kenneth McDonald Stepney, 46 year old native of King George County, died at Mary Washington Hospital on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013.

A service was held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at First Baptist Church Ambar, King George, with Pastor William T. Frye officiating.

Rita Ada White

Rita Ada White, 87, of King George County went to be with her heavenly Father on Wednesday,, Feb. 20, 2013.

She was born in Newburg, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Agnes Corscardi; and her only sister Lucia Cypert.

Mrs. White is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ernest; her only son, Vincent (Valerie) and three grandchildren, Benjamin, Daniel and Elizabeth White, all of King George.

She was a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, King George. She took her job as a homemaker for more than 55 years very seriously.

A funeral was held on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Covenant Funeral Service chapel. Entombment followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Roy E. Simsheuser, Jr.

Roy E. Simsheuser Jr., 42, of Colonial Beach passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at home.
Roy was a member of River of Life Pentecostal Church in Colonial Beach.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Smith of Colonial Beach; his mother Paula and step-dad Robert Brooks of Colonial Beach; a sister, Angela (Brian) Holst of Independence, MO; four daughters; two sons; three step-children; two grandchildren; a niece and two nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Roy E. Simsheuser Sr.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 23 in the River of Life Pentecostal Church, Colonial Beach, with the Rev. Scottie Jackson officiating.

Interment will be private.
