Margaret Rhone Hoban

Margaret Rhone Hoban, 87, of King George County died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at home.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Todd Hoban, Sean Hoban and Jamie Hoban.

The viewing was held Friday, Dec. 21, at Lee Hill Funeral Home in King George, followed by a funeral Mass at noon at St. Anthony Catholic Church in King George.

Lloyd Curtis Baker

Deacon Lloyd Curtis “Dump” Baker, 86, of Woodford went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at his residence.

A decorated World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Marine Corps Base Quantico. He was also a cabinet maker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dansberry and Sallie Chew Baker; his older son, Curtis Edward Baker; his brothers, Judge, Napoleon, Dansberry and Profit Baker; his sister, Druscilla Bates; grandsons Joseph and DeVaughn Baker; and son-in-law William Fisher.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Geneva Parker Baker; one son, the Rev. Antonio Baker Sr. (Sonya); four daughters, Susie Mills (Frank), Genevinia England (Floyd), Romaine Fisher, and Marvis Pitts (Kenneth); 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

A visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 22, at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, in Fredericksburg.

A service to celebrate his life was held Sunday, Dec. 23, at Third Mount Zion Baptist Church, in Woodford, with the Rev. Antonio Baker Sr. as eulogist.

Burial will be in Third Mount Zion Baptist Church cemetery, Woodford Road, Woodford.

Violet Mae Carneal

Violet Mae “Toni” Carneal, 73, of Fredericksburg passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Toni was a Girl Scout leader for 14 years and was a substitute teacher at Ferry Farm Elementary School. She was an avid gardener and was a band booster throughout her children’s lives. Toni loved all of the children in her family as well as close friends.

She was a member of the Fredericksburg Iris Society, genealogy societies in Caroline, Stafford, Spotsylvania and King George counties and the Patawomeck Indian tribe.

Toni is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ryland Henry Carneal; a son, Ryland Henry Carneal Jr. of Fredericksburg; a daughter, Nina Carneal Cox (Larry), of King George County; five grandchildren, Trevor Justin, Jasmine Nichole, Serena Marie, Crystal Ann and Ryland Shea; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Roland Shelton of Woodford; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

A memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 21, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. Inurnment will follow in the Haynes/Carneal family cemetery.

Raymond L. Liming

Raymond L. Liming, 76, of King George County died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, in Fredericksburg.
He was an Air Force veteran and a member of Triangle Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his sons, Michael and Stephen Liming; three grandchildren, Rachel, Nicole and Kasey Liming; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Betty Carpenter, Barbara Magnum, Donald Liming, Diane Bass, James Liming, Roger Liming, Irma Pearson, and Eugene Liming.

A graveside service was held Friday, Dec. 21, at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle.

Robert Hughes Curtis

Robert Hughes Curtis, 95, of Stafford County passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mr. Curtis was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II . He retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Dahlgren. Mr. Curtis was a member of the Patawomeck Indian tribe and Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute.

Survivors include his daughters, Ruby Courtney (Spencer), of Falmouth and Donna Jenkins of Stafford County; five grandchildren, Debbie Yeagle, Karen Rupp, Glenn Hann, Michelle Jenkins and Jennifer Scafone; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia C. Curtis.

The family received friends Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service was held Thursday, Dec. 13, at the funeral home chapel. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Edward Marr Snyder

Edward Marr Snyder, 42, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at home in Parker, SD, surrounded by his family, after a hard-fought battle with cholangiocarcinoma.

“Marr” was born April 3, 1970, in Richmond to Edward C. and Anne Gulledge Snyder. He grew up in Stafford County and graduated from North Stafford High School in 1988.

Grateful for having shared Marr’s life are his wife, Jenny, and son Parker; his parents, Edward C. and Anne Snyder of Heathsville; a brother, Walter Charles (Kim) of King George County; a sister, Tina Snyder Breede (David) of Odessa, FL; his grandmother, Emogene Dayton of Colonial Heights; his mother- and father-in-law, Rod and Sallie Mellquist of Erie, PA; nine nieces and nephews; four great-nieces and great-nephews; and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service was held in South Dakota.

Roy Jennings Holloway, Jr.

Roy Jennings Holloway Jr., 88, of Goochland passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at home.

Mr. Holloway was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, tennis and hunting. Mr. Holloway retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren, and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, LaVaughn Holloway; daughter Lisa Ann Brown (Kenneth); grandchildren Joseph Jennings Brown, Andrew Brown (Nicole) and Amanda Symonds (Mike); and great-grandchildren Noah, Tyler, Hannah and Carter.

A service was held Friday, Dec. 14, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial followed in Quantico National Cemetery.

Suzanne Pryor

Suzanne Pryor, 56, of Comorn in King George County lost her long battle with cancer at home Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012.

Suzanne was the daughter of the late Harold R. Pryor and Mary T. Pryor.

She was educated in King George County schools and graduated from Hollins College and Boston School of Shiatsu. Suzanne continued her education at seminars and workshops around the world. She loved her Comorn Gardens, natural healing and helping many people live life to the fullest. Suzanne was able to touch many lives with her exceptional gardening, conversation and healing talents through employment at Natural Therapy in Falmouth.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Pryor of the home; her brother, Ben T. Pryor (Angelette), and their sons, Ray and Taylor Pryor, all of Mechanicsville; numerous cousins; and many dear friends.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, King George. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the parish house.

John C. Gleason

John C. Gleason, 55, of Colonial Beach passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Mary Washington Hospital.

John was born in Detroit, MI. He was employed by Heritage Hall in King George County as a C.N.A. and previously worked at Westmoreland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center. He was a member of King George Church Of God.

John is survived by his wife, Patty E. Gleason of the home; two children, Noel Marie Gleason and John Curtis Gleason, both of Colonial Beach; his father, Curtis David Gleason of Cedartown, GA.; his mother, Ruth M. Northrup of Oakdale, NY; three sisters, Kimette L. Cannady of Colonial Beach, Dawn Marie Haase of Cedartown, GA, and Deborah Joy Occhipinti of Babylon, NY; a brother, Daniel Gleason Sr. of Ashland, VA; and several nieces and nephews and other family members.

The family will receive friends from 6:15 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, December 20 at King George Church Of God, 8095 Kings Highway, King George, VA., 22485, with a memorial service starting at 7 p.m. officiated by Pastor Milton Carter.

Burial will be private.

Anne Olive Haywood

Ann Olive Haywood, 82, of Dahlgren passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She is survived by a son, Larry (Tona); daughter Kim (Gregg); daughter Bambi; grandchildren Ian, Grayson, Mandy, and Lauren and her husband, Chris; and great-grandchildren Chauncey and Peyton.

The family will receive friends at Ann’s home on Thursday, Dec. 20, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Edna C. Adkins

Edna C. Adkins, 95, of Fredericksburg died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Heritage Hall in King George County.

Mrs. Adkins was the former owner of Dot’s Beauty Shop in Fredericksburg. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in King George.

She was the widow of Milton L. Adkins. She is survived by two sisters, Gladys M. Coates of Index and Barbara C. Owens of Montross; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret C. Wholey, and a brother, Frank F. Coates Jr.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach, with the Rev. Ron Okrasinski officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Oak Grove.

Lynwood B. Sullivan

Lynwood B. Sullivan, 71, of Falmouth passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital with loved ones by his side.

Mr. Sullivan was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Falmouth to the late John B. and Florence Sullivan.

He lived in Falmouth his entire life, graduating from Stafford High School and Danville Technical Institute. He worked at Dahlgren NSWC, where he retired in 1993 after 30 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Fredericksburg Elks Lodge and Knights of Pythias.

Mr. Sullivan was also an avid softball player and was inducted into the Central Virginia Softball Association Hall of Fame in 2003. It was through softball that he developed many lifelong friendships.

After retiring, Mr. Sullivan spent his time enjoying his grandchildren and attending all of their school activities and sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Garnett Sullivan, a recent honoree on the Stafford Indians Alumni Wall of Honor Memorial; and sister Hazel Sullivan.

Mr. Sullivan is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Sterling Sullivan; son Todd Sullivan (Tracy); daughter Vicki Sullivan Sowers (Jack); grandchildren Taylor Sullivan, Camden Sowers, Cole Sowers, Tannor Sullivan and Tucker Sullivan.

A service was held Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Ferry Farm Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paige Young officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, South Atlantic Division Inc., 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA, 23060-9904.

James May, III

James May III, 31, of King George County died Saturday, Dec. 15, at his home.

He was born in Jacksonville, Fla. He was last employed as an auto mechanic in Waldorf, MD, and was a technology geek.

He is survived by his father and mother, the Rev. Jim May Jr. and Kathy May of the home; his maternal grandparents, Julian and Katie Warren Allison of Tippo, MS; his paternal grandparents, James Bowen May and Janice May of Jacksonville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in King George, with the Rt. Rev. Edwin F. Gulick Jr., the Rev. Diane Carroll and the Rev. Chris Agnew officiating.

A reception will follow in the church parish hall.

Mary L. Ware

Mary L. Ware, 93, of King George County passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at her home.

She is survived by her son, Johnny L. Johnson of Philadelphia; three sisters, Peachie Scranage and Margaret Hill, both of King George, and Vester Lumpkin of Spotsylvania County; and a brother, George Frye of King George.

A funeral will be held at noon, Wednesday, Dec. 19, at First Baptist Church in Ambar, with the Rev. William Frye officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
