Edward Marr Snyder

Edward Marr Snyder, 42, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at home in Parker, SD, surrounded by his family, after a hard-fought battle with cholangiocarcinoma.

“Marr” was born April 3, 1970, in Richmond to Edward C. and Anne Gulledge Snyder. He grew up in Stafford County and graduated from North Stafford High School in 1988.

Grateful for having shared Marr’s life are his wife, Jenny, and son Parker; his parents, Edward C. and Anne Snyder of Heathsville; a brother, Walter Charles (Kim) of King George County; a sister, Tina Snyder Breede (David) of Odessa, FL; his grandmother, Emogene Dayton of Colonial Heights; his mother- and father-in-law, Rod and Sallie Mellquist of Erie, PA; nine nieces and nephews; four great-nieces and great-nephews; and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service was held in South Dakota.

Suzanne Pryor

Suzanne Pryor, 56, of Comorn in King George County lost her long battle with cancer at home Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012.

Suzanne was the daughter of the late Harold R. Pryor and Mary T. Pryor.

She was educated in King George County schools and graduated from Hollins College and Boston School of Shiatsu. Suzanne continued her education at seminars and workshops around the world. She loved her Comorn Gardens, natural healing and helping many people live life to the fullest. Suzanne was able to touch many lives with her exceptional gardening, conversation and healing talents through employment at Natural Therapy in Falmouth.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Pryor of the home; her brother, Ben T. Pryor (Angelette), and their sons, Ray and Taylor Pryor, all of Mechanicsville; numerous cousins; and many dear friends.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, King George. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the parish house.

Anne Olive Haywood

Ann Olive Haywood, 82, of Dahlgren passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She is survived by a son, Larry (Tona); daughter Kim (Gregg); daughter Bambi; grandchildren Ian, Grayson, Mandy, and Lauren and her husband, Chris; and great-grandchildren Chauncey and Peyton.

The family will receive friends at Ann’s home on Thursday, Dec. 20, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Lynwood B. Sullivan

Lynwood B. Sullivan, 71, of Falmouth passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital with loved ones by his side.

Mr. Sullivan was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Falmouth to the late John B. and Florence Sullivan.

He lived in Falmouth his entire life, graduating from Stafford High School and Danville Technical Institute. He worked at Dahlgren NSWC, where he retired in 1993 after 30 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Fredericksburg Elks Lodge and Knights of Pythias.

Mr. Sullivan was also an avid softball player and was inducted into the Central Virginia Softball Association Hall of Fame in 2003. It was through softball that he developed many lifelong friendships.

After retiring, Mr. Sullivan spent his time enjoying his grandchildren and attending all of their school activities and sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Garnett Sullivan, a recent honoree on the Stafford Indians Alumni Wall of Honor Memorial; and sister Hazel Sullivan.

Mr. Sullivan is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Sterling Sullivan; son Todd Sullivan (Tracy); daughter Vicki Sullivan Sowers (Jack); grandchildren Taylor Sullivan, Camden Sowers, Cole Sowers, Tannor Sullivan and Tucker Sullivan.

A service was held Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Ferry Farm Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paige Young officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, South Atlantic Division Inc., 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA, 23060-9904.

Mary L. Ware

Mary L. Ware, 93, of King George County passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at her home.

She is survived by her son, Johnny L. Johnson of Philadelphia; three sisters, Peachie Scranage and Margaret Hill, both of King George, and Vester Lumpkin of Spotsylvania County; and a brother, George Frye of King George.

A funeral will be held at noon, Wednesday, Dec. 19, at First Baptist Church in Ambar, with the Rev. William Frye officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Robert E. “Bob” Dunn Sr., 75, of Oak Grove passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Mary Washington Hospital.

Shirley Dempsey Gallahan

Shirley Dempsey Gallahan, 76, of King George County died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mrs. Gallahan was born in Fredericksburg and graduated from Stafford High School in 1954. She was a member of Hanover Baptist Church in King George and a retired homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton E. Gallahan; her parents, Maxwell R. and Marion E. Dempsey; and a sister, Jacqueline Perna.

Survivors include son Milton E. Gallahan Jr. (Sharon), daughter Susan G. Marshall (Michael), granddaughter Sarah Beth Marshall, and grandson Matthew M. Marshall, all of King George; three sisters, Patricia Cornell of Stafford County, Cynthia Bullock of Spotsylvania County and Mary Shover of Alexandria; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Darren and the Rev. Jessica Williams officiating. Burial will follow at noon in Quantico National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Arthur B. Crismond, Jr.

Arthur B. Crismond Jr., 78, of King George County passed away Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Mary Washington Hospital.
Arthur was a former saw mill worker in King George and factory worker in Michigan. He loved gospel music and attended various churches.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Lee Crismond, of the home; half-sister, Rachel Snider of Florida; four step-children, Patricia Velarde and Daniel Carroll, both of North Carolina, James Carroll and Robert Carroll, both of King George; ten grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Burial will be private.

Edward E. George

Edward E. “Ed” George, 62, of Falmouth passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012.

Mr. George was born July 11, 1950, in Huntsville, AL, to the late Paul and Doris George. He grew up in an Army family, living in Nuremberg, Germany; Fort Lewis, WA; and at Sierra Army Depot in Herlong, CA. He graduated from the University of California at Davis, School of Engineering.

Mr. George worked at NSWC, Dahlgren, from 1972 to 2012 as an engineer, working on electronic warfare and shipboard radar.

Survivors include his wife, Franceen Polskin George of Falmouth; sisters Kathleen “Candi” George and Peggy Elizabeth Rolie and brother Paul Alan George, all of Reno, NV; cousins Susan Weaver and Lynn Hershey, both of Lititz, PA; and nephews Steven Frederickson and Trevor Black.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Elizabeth and Allison.

The family received friends Dec. 16, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service was held Monday, Dec. 17, at the funeral home chapel. Burial followed in Falmouth Cemetery.

Nancy Carol Coffman of Westmoreland departed this life Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at her residence.

John Grant Mathews

John Grant Mathews, 73, of Landover, MD, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012.

A service was held Saturday, Dec. 15, at Antioch Baptist Church in King George. Interment was in Historyland Memorial Park.

Betty Willis Thompson

Betty Willis Thompson, 57, of Montross passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at VCU Medical Center.

A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Morning Star Baptist Church in Montross.

The funeral will be held at noon Thursday, Dec. 13, at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Peggy R. Fitzgerald

Peggy R. Fitzgerald, 81, of King George County died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital.

She was born in Lent, Caroline County. She was formerly employed as a secretary at NSWC and then as a financial secretary for the King George County school system. She was a longtime member of Oakland Baptist Church and loved flower gardening and reading.

She is survived by her husband, Emmett W. Fitzgerald of the home; two daughters, Janet Fitzgerald Burckell (Thomas) and Donna Fitzgerald (Ted Belloli), all of King George; one brother, Lewis Rollins (June), of Rappahannock Academy; four grandchildren, Thomas Emmett Burckell (Mindy), Bridget Burckell Ray (Brandon), Joshua Armentrout and Dane Armentrout (Samantha); and one great-grandchild, Ryland Armentrout.

The family received friends Friday, Dec. 14, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. A service was held Saturday, Dec. 15, at Oakland Baptist Church in King George. Burial followed in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.
