A christmas tradition

It was a packed house at Shiloh Baptist Church on Sunday, Dec. 9 for the Mary Burnley Owens Children’s Program Reunion. Alumni of the Mary Burnley Owens’ Christmas program were invited to perform again to celebrate the tradition begun 67 years ago. The event was Shiloh’s way to honor Mary Burnley, who turned 90 last April. She says, “The children keep me young and keep me going.” She is pictured here with Rev. Mike Jessee, Shiloh’s pastor.

A Christmas Grace Dinner

Mrs. Clift is a Stafford County resident I have known most of my life. She worked as a cafeteria manager for 17 years for Stafford County Public Schools and she has been a very active member at Mountain View Baptist Church here in King George County.

Obama is joined by Warner and Kaine on campaign stop in Richmond

Richmond — President Barack Obama gave a rousing speech at Byrd Park in the middle of Richmond on Thursday.  More than 15,000 enthusiastic supporters came out to the park, overflowing into streets, standing on some roofs, even standing along alleys that had no view at all of the stage, but it was clear—Richmond had Obama fever.

Hurricane Sandy Update

Because there is a lot going on with Hurricane Sandy, and because our website was recently down, we are keeping the news updated on The Journal's Facebook page . Check our Facebook page for current coverage and information about Sandy.

We will be back here after the paper goes to press with our usual coverage of local government, schools, etc.

We are also building a new website - so check back to check out the new redesign!

Thanks,

The Journal

Hurricane Sandy has now been downgraded to a category one hurricane with winds of 80 mph as of Friday 8 a.m. and is now off the coast of Florida. That may seem like a long way off but now is the time to prepare. Experts predict that the storm will track  ortheast along the coast, but will take a sharp turn west after it passes the Northern most tip of North Carolina.

Paul Ryan, Robb Wittman and Hunting in Virginia Appeal to Fredericksburg attendees

Republican vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan made his final public campaign stop for the day at Fredericksburg Expo Center last Oct. 16, after spending most of the day in Virginia.
Dozens of vendors with Republican swag surrounded the estimated 3,000 attendees waiting in line selling buttons and other campaign materials.
The very country theme, with cowboy hats and Country music reverberated through the room as Country music singer Collin Raye entertained the crowd.
Lights dimmed and a video that was to play during the Republican National Convention played for several minutes.
