Swimmer of the Week
2012 • July 2-6
The Sharks are off to a great start this season with a solid win over Chancellor last week. That win, in part, was due to the great performances of our next swimmers of the week.
Our girls Swimmers of the Week is a sister act. We’re honoring our swimmers family style, again, this week—congratulations to Skylar, Shea and Sydney Hennessee! The older Hennessee girls, Skylar and Shea, have been on the team since 2008-- Skylar was six years old and Shea was only four at the time. Sydney sat on deck, watching her older sisters swim for two years, before eagerly joining the team in 2010. All three girls have been actively swimming year round with the Rappahannock Raiders—something that has greatly benefitted them as they all have made major contributions to the Sharks. All three girls have fast freestyle times which have earned them the honor of being on the A-relay freestyle teams for their respective age groups. For the 8 and under girls, Sydney is third off the blocks and sister Shea is the anchor on this undefeated freestyle relay team. Big sis, Skylar, swims second on the 9-10 girls A-relay freestyle team, which is also undefeated! Wow, such team work! Individually, this past week, Skylar finished fourth (16.38), and Shea and Sydney finished first (18.20) and fourth (20.41), respectively, in 25 yard Freestyle. In 25 Backstroke, Skylar (19.37) and Sydney (24.45) finished third; and in 25 Breaststroke, Shea finished second (25.85) and Sydney (29.76) sixth. There’s a saying . . . “Third time is the charmer.” Well, all three Hennessee girls are charmers! Skylar, Shea, and Sydney we are proud of all three of you girls! You add so much to our team. Way to go!
Our Boys’ Swimmer of the Week honors goes to 13 year old Harlan Baggett. Harlan has been swimming with the Sharks for six years. He has been showing a lot of improvement this season despite a late start, due to his recovering from a bout with mononucleosis. This past week against Chancellor, Harlan finished fifth in 50 yard freestyle (32.75); third in 50 yard butterfly (36.31), and fourth in 50 yard backstroke (41.25). He has also been swimming on the A-relay freestyle and the 125-yard Graduated relay teams for the 13-14 boys. Harlan has been working hard at practices and it shows in his performances at our meets. Good job, Harlan! We are proud of you!
