Bushrod golf tournament a booming success

Jermon Bushrod has become than a football hero or sports icon in the King George and Fredericksburg area community. He represents a movement to enrich aspiring student athletes to achieve their ultimate academic and professional goals. The recent Jermon Bushrod Charity Golf Tournament, held at Cameron Hills Golf Course, optimizes the Bushrod theme, Visualize and Rize. 

Now in its second year, the tournament was a success; with 169 golfers competing, it is abundantly clear that he has the support of the community. More importantly, proceeds raised from the live auction, individual donations, and tournament registration will be given out in the form of scholarships to students in King George, Colonial Beach, Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Caroline, Stafford, and Westmoreland County. The tournament proceeds brought in over $6,500.00.

The tournament winners consisted of two flights (morning, afternoon) of golfers: Morning - 1st Place, Team Community Bank of Tri-County, Patrick Pierce, Tony Farland, Laura McKinnon, Greg Cockerham; 2nd Place, Team Meadows Farms, Ron Meadows, Kate Meadows, Jay Meadows, Chester Guzek; 3rd Place, Team Trivett Bombers, Travis Henderson, Rich Fredenburgh, Bill Fulton, Patrick Voit; Afternoon - 1st Place, Team W&L Baseball, Mark Harris, Jason Izana, Donald Clark, Michael Clark; 2nd Place, Team Local Services, Tony Bushrod, Edgar Jones, Donald Newton, James Harvey; 3rd Place Team Guzzlers, Eric Halter, Larry Bartyczak, Mike Wehrle, Mark Hall.

No Jermon Bushrod celebrity golf tournament would be complete without its share of gridiron heroes. NFL Players in attendance for the Golf and Football Camp included: Jermon Bushrod, New Orleans Saints; Jahri Evans, New Orleans Saints; Johnny Patrick, New Orleans Saints; Nate Bussey, New Orleans Saints; Mark Ingram, New Orleans Saints; Roman Harper, New Orleans Saints;

Leigh Torrence, Washington Redskins; Torrey Smith, Baltimore Ravens; Usama Young, Cleveland Browns; Mike Nelms, Washington Redskins (retired).

The live auction consisted of signed autographed Jerseys from the following NFL players: Jermon Bushrod’s official Game Jersey and a Pro Bowl Jersey; Jahri Evans from the New Orleans Saints

Mark Ingram from the New Orleans Saints; Drew Brees from the New Orleans Saints; Jimmy Graham from the New Orleans Saints
