Healthy Kids Day 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run

Whether you were a fitness enthusiast, or a fan of endurance competition, the sight of two huge waves of runners participating in the Annual King George Healthy Kids Day 5K Run/Walk, and 1 Mile Fun Run would bring tears to your eyes. “It’s a wonderful day to have a kids’ run,” King George Family YMCA Wellness Director Gary Roach said. “We had 75 kids at a very fast pace, which made it a beautiful day.”

The event also featured indoor activities such as passport for health, football throw, community swim, an inflatable jumping machine and music from the King George Middle School Band. Healthy Kids Day sponsors included EXIT Realty Expertise, NSWC Federal Credit Union, VA Runner and the King George Lions Club.

On June 29, the The King George Lions Club will sponsor a Dirty Lion 5K Mud Run, and 1 Mile Leo Mud Run at Eagle Bay. For more information, go online at www.dirtylionmudrun.com.

Twelve-year old Spotsylvania resident Zoe Gobeille wasn’t satisfied with winning the 19 and under 5K (24:29) portion of the Healthy Kids event; she was also the overall one-mile winner with a time of seven minutes. King George residents Lily Pallotti (7:52) and Kaitlyn Wear (7:58) finished second and third place overall, respectively in the 1 Mile event.

Other girls winning the 1 Mile Run were: 6 & under: Lindsey Spillman, King George, 6, 8:59; 7-8: Jessica Nester, King George, 8, 8:42; 9-10: Haley Smith, King George, 9, 8:37; 11-12: Ellie Meyer, King George, 12, 7:59; 13-14: Emma Pallotti, King George, 14, 8:39; girls others: Gabrielle Bueche, King George, 15, 8:22.

Twelve- year old Tyler Knepshield won the boys’ Healthy Kids portion of the race with a time of 6:05. Alexander Dachos (6:11) and Eric Miller (7:18) finished second and third, respectively.

Other boys’ finishers included: 6 & under: Benjamin Tidwell, King George, 6, 8:32; 7-8: Carson Clary, King George, 7, 7:47; 9-10: Adam Richmond, King George, 9, 7:34; Alex LaPonte, Fredericksburg, 11, 7:44.

On the adult women’s side, 24-year old Fredericksburg resident Christi Tims was the overall winner with a time of 21:30. King George resident Alice Pallotti placed second with a time of 23:15, and Fredericksburg native Anna Sedory finished third with a time of 23:36.

Other women’s winners included: 19 & under: Zoe Gobeille, Spotsylvania, 12, 24:29; 20-29: Tara Ireland, Fredericksburg, 25, 24:04; 30-39: Lin Jones, King George, 33, 27:56; 40-49: Jennifer Rasnake, Colonial Beach, 40, 24:47; 50-59: Andrea Carroll, Stafford, 50, 24:09; 60 and over: Marcia Hall, King George, 69, 36:53.

Forty-seven-year old Fredericksburg resident, Mike Cutright was the top male finisher with a time of 18:20. Norfolk resident James Hitch placed second with a time of 19:16. Spotsylvania resident, and fitness enthusiast Terry McLaughlin rounded out the top three male finishers with a time of 20:24.

Other featured male first place finishers included: 19 & under: Joey Holman, King George, 11, 27:01; 20-29: Sam Doran, Bowling Green, 29, 28:14; 30-39: Tony Dunn, Patterson, LA, 39, 22:52; 40-49: Don McKenney, Colonial Beach, 44, 21:56; 50-59: Mike Brooks, Fredericksburg, 56, 21:48; 60 and over: Allen Vaughan, Stafford, 62, 21:58.
