Last weekend, the BWSL Foxes competed in the 2010 Virginia U15 DII State Tournament, sanctioned by the AAU, held at the Stuart C. Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University.
The team is coached by David Crenshaw. Coach Crenshaw volunteers his time, as do the two assistant coaches, Chris Brown and Anthony Howard. The Foxes have been together for a short time, a little over a month and this was their first tournament.
The coaches agreed this was a great learning experience for the players as well as themselves.
“The teams that competed here were very competitive,” Coach Howard said. “Our team will take advantage of this experience to grow and will be able to go on to compete at this level.”
When asked what the team learned most from this experience, Coach Crenshaw replied: “We learned that we have what it takes physically and mentally to continue to compete.”
Their three-point game was impressive as well as their defense (blocking shots). The Foxes worked together to bring what they had to the court, even though they fell short of a top-finishing spot. The team is already looking forward to the next tournament, Super Regionals on May 14 in Hampton, Va. This opportunity would not be possible without the support of the player’s families and many sponsors such as King George House of Pizza, McDaniels and Fas Mart. With support from their families and community, these young people will have the opportunity to continue to reach their goals.
