KG area runners compete in annual Turkey Trot race

Neither cold nor fidgid temperatures could keep 2,200 runners from competing in the 15th annual Friends & Family/YMCA Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk race on Thanksgiving Day.
Families traveled from as far as California to compete in the 5K adult and 1K childrens’ race, which featured nearly 500 kids. Amid freezing temperatures, seventy-two kids from the King George metropolitan area came out to showcase their holiday running skills. The location of the event took place near the Rappahannock Regional Library and True Luv’s Restaurant in downtown Fredericksburg.
The top overall winners from heats 1-4 for the 1K are as follows: heat 1, Caitlyn Kirtley [Fredericksburg], age 8, 7:39; heat 2, Tiffany Ray [Fredericksburg], age 12, 6:23; heat 3, Ben Morley [Fredericksburg], age 8, 7:19; heat 4, Hearn King [Fredericksburg], age 11, 5:54.
The winner for the adult 5K overall women’s portion was Malika Mejdoub, a resident from New York. Also from the Big Apple was the men’s overall winner, Mouhcine Outaleb [14:39].
