KG Lady Foxes Track & Field own Fred Hardy Invitational

Last Saturday at the 24th Fred Hardy Invitational, at the Estes Center in Fork Union Military Academy, 29 schools competed for the opportunity to qualify for region and state competition. When the dust settled, the King George High School Foxes girls’ track & field team placed first with 68.25 points.

All Foxes girls posted personal best times in their individual events. In terms of improvement, junior Brittany Williams dropped six seconds in the 500-meters, and placed fifth with a time of 1:25.

Senior Jessica Swenson posted a regional qualifying shot-put throw measuring 34’ 10 1/5”.

With a 45 -minute break between race events, Miranda Green dominated the 1000-meters by finishing well ahead of the field with a first place time of 3:13.39. The junior also placed first in the 1600-meters with a time of 5:30.19.

The Foxes girls’ relay team, featuring Lindsey Armentrout, Miranda Green, Brittany Williams and  Ashley Perkins, posted a first place and state qualifying time of 4:18.90 in the 4x400-meter relay.

Lindsey broke a school record in the 500-meters (1:20.40), and also qualified for the state meet.

Lady athletes that contributed to the girls’ team victory included: Heidi Colwell, 300-meter dash, 6th, 45.49; Lindsey Armentrout, 500-meter dash, 2nd, 1:21.40; Brittany Williams, 500-meter dash, 5th, 1:25.85; Haley Armentrout, 3200-meters, 3rd, 12:16.39; Kristen Hornbaker, 3200-meters, 4th, 12:31.48; Miranda Green, 1000-meters, 1st, 3:13.39; Miranda Green, 1600-metes, 1st, 5:30.19; KGHS girls 4x200, 5th place, 1:55.80; KGHS girls 4x400, 1st place, 4:18.90; KGHS girls 4x800, 3rd place, 10:24.12; Lindsey Armentrout, high jump, 6th, 4’8”; Lindsey Armentrout, pole vault, 4th, 9’8”; Jessica Swenson, shot put, 3rd, 34’10.50.

As for the Foxes boys (14 points) they finished 12th, while Fork Union Military Academy placed first with 70 points. Davion Hutt posted a second place, regional qualifying, and National Elite time in the 55-meter dash of 6.61. Currently, Hutt’s time is the fast time recorded in the Fredericksburg area this season.

The following Foxes boys contributed points to their team’s total effort: Davion Hutt, 55-meter dash, 2nd, 6.61; DeMarcus Epps, 500-meters, 4th, 1:09.43; KGHS 4x200, 5th, 1:38.72; Jonathan Graham, pole vault, 6th, 11’6”.

On Friday, weather permitting, the Foxes girls’ and boys’ track teams travel to compete in the Woodberry Forest Invitational, at Woodberry Forest School. Tuesday’s home meet was postponed to a later date.
