Foxes Amethyst Polk rules VHSL States

She saved her best for last. After qualifying in five events at the VHSL Group AA State Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Harrisonburg, enior King George High School track and field star Amethyst Polk enjoyed arguably the best performance of her athletic career. The senior placed seventh in the triple jump (35’ 11.75), third in the long jump (17’ 7.50), sixth in the 100-meter dash (12.62), and sixth in the 400-meter dash (58.35).

Polk is the most coveted girls track and field athlete in Fox history. She currently holds school records in the 100-meters, 200-meters, 300-meters and 400-meters. As the Foxes girls top point

producer in the last two years, Polk has played a major role in two back-to-back Battlefield District Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and Region I Indoor Track and Field Championship. To truly appreciate her skills and dedication to track and field, a person would have to look back at the hundreds of girls athletes who have competed at KGHS.

Lindsey Armentrout placed fourth in the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet, a new school record. Armentrout’s sister Haley also recorded a new school record in the 3,200-meters (11:44.22).
Team-wise, Hidden Valley won the championship with 48 points. The Foxes finished ninth with 23 points.

Junior Christiansburg athlete Rochelle Evans set a new meet record and placed first in the girls shot put with a toss of 45’ 9”. She also placed first in the discus event with a toss of 135’ 7”.
Louisa High School sophomore Javanique Burrus set a new meet record in the girls long jump (19’ 5”), and completed her banner championship day by winning the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.9.

As for the boys, the Foxes finished in 47th place, with their lone qualifier, junior Matt Jerson, placing seventh in the pole vault with a vault of 12’. The top area team for the boys was Eastern View, which finished in 10th place with 18 points. Louis City won the championship with 74.50 points.

Other Lady Fox performances included: Mia Meyer, 15th 300 hurdles; Miranda Green, 23rd, 800 meters; 4x800 meter relay, 18th (A. Green, Brittany Williams, Tabitha Kim, Anna Kniceley); Shearl Levere, 12th, triple jump, 100-meter high hurdles, 21st; Jessica Swenson, shot put, 14th.
