Washington & Lee Eagle Fall sports are on the rise

It’s that time of year already! Washington & Lee coaches are gearing up for the Fall Sports season. Last fall, the Eagles captured four district titles in the Northern Neck District (boys cross country, girls cross country, drama, & football), as well as a Regional Title (drama) and Regional Runner-up title (girls cross country). Prospective Athletes, remember to get your physicals, now! The activity bus will start running on July 30th, the bus drops off at W&L at 5:30 p.m. and picks up from W&L at 9:15 p.m. Fans, parents, and relatives also be on the look out for Eagle Gold Cards! 

Cheerleading

Fall cheerleading tryouts will be at W&L High School on July 23, 24, and 25 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. If you have any question questions you contact Coach Alex Henderson at 804-493-8015

Cross Country

The first day of practice for the boys & girls cross country team will be on Monday July 30 at Washington & Lee High School at 6 p.m. There will be a parent meeting at 5:30 on the same day. Runners should bring running attire, a water bottle, and proper running shoes. The preferred standard for boys will be a 6:50 minute mile or better and for girls a 9:00 minute mile or better. There will be a free cross-country camp available to all middle and high school age students beginning July 23 through 26 at the Aylett Country Day School. Camp will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at noon each day. Registration is open to all and will begin at 8 a.m. Monday morning, in the Aylett Country Day School gymnasium. Camp will include a morning run each day, followed by core exercises, and teaching of form fundamentals; along with classroom instruction on subjects such as proper hydration and nutrition, goal setting, running form, and improving runner’s performance. Football

 

Coach Antron Yates takes over the Eagle Football program at Washington & Lee high school this fall. Yates, a former Eagle himself is eager to get started. Currently he is available to meet parents, players, and fans on Mondays, Wednesday, and Thursdays, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the W&L Weight Room. The weight room is open for all prospective athletes on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. On July 18, equipment will be issued for juniors and seniors from 6 to 7:30 p.m.and on July 19 it will be issued to freshmen and sophomores from 6 to 7:30 p.m. From July 25 to 27 Coach Yates and his coaching staff will host “Eagles Training Camp” from 6 to 8 p.m. The first official practice will be on July 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. 

There will be a youth football camp sponsored by the Westmoreland Youth Association (WYA) held at Washington & Lee for ages 5-14. Registration will take place on July 14 and 21 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. and July 30 from 5 to 6 p.m. at W&L high school. The camp will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 30 and 31. All campers will get to work alongside varsity football players and coaches from the entire program. The cost is $25.00. All campers receive a t-shirt! 

Volleyball

Tryouts for junior varsity and varsity volleyball will start on July 30 at W&L high school. They will continue to July 31 and possibly August 2.
