Last Saturday at the Dream Fields in Kilmarnock, the Montross Middle School baseball team defeated the Colonial Beach, 10-6, for the coveted Northern Neck Middle School Baseball Championship.
During the championship game, Dylan Tyler struck out six Drifter players and allowed four hits in three innings of pitching. Jeremy Saunders came for two innings of relief, which resulted in one no hit and one strikeout.
Prior to the championship game, the Eagles defeated Lancaster in game one, 9-2. Cullen Bell was solid on the
mound with three and a half innings of pitching that resulted in three hits and three strikeouts. Dylan Tyler pitched one and two thirds inning, where he struck out four batters and allowed no hits.
At the plate, Bell was 1 for 2, Deiontre Campbell was 1 for 3, and Nicky Fones was 1 for 2.
Throughout the tournament, Fones led the Eagles with a .600 batting average while producing three hits out of five appearances at the plate. His batting performance also yielded one RBI. Fones’ teammate Campbell was 2 for 4 at the plate, which resulted in one RBI and a .500 batting average.
Throughout the season, the Eagles dominated the Northern Neck with an undefeated 7-0 record. The Eagles offense scored 103 runs while yielding 22 runs.
