Drifters shock Trojans, end six-year jinx

The 2016 season for the Drifters (2-2, 7-8) softball team had it’s share of ups and downs; however, the black and gold defeated Essex and West Point last week to move into 3rd place in the 1A Conference 43 standings. More importantly, the victory over the visiting Trojans, last Tuesday has instilled a newfound confidence in the Drifters.

Drifters Kenzie Cox slams 4 homeruns in 2 games

Junior Colonial Beach High School Drifters' third baseman Kenzie Cox is having her best season ever.
Last week, she led the Drifters to a 40-1 rout over host Charles City, with three home runs, and 6 hits out of 7 plate appearances. On the following day, against the visiting Douglass Freeman Rebels, in a 9-6 losing cause, the multi-athlete (basketball, volleyball, softball) accounted for three RBIs, 1 homerun, and 2 scores.

Drifters make fourth Va. state tourney appearance

On March 5 at the campus of UVA-Wise, during the VHSL 1A Girls’ State Quarterfinal, the Drifters' (19-8) season came to an end at the hands of the Northwood Panthers (29-0). The appearance was the Drifters fourth consecutive trip to the state tournament. As for the Panthers, they went on defeat Parry McCluer (49-33) in the State semifinal — eventually edging Appomatox Regional (57-52) for the coveted state championship.

Drifters defeat Northumberland in nail-biter to win Conf. 43

It was a nail-biter to the very end at Lancaster High School Saturday.

Drifters pound Essex Trojans

At this stage of the 2015-2016 season, the Drifters (2-0, 8-5) girl’s basketball team are showing no signs of slowing down. After dispensing of Essex (69-37), it appears that the Drifters have retained their identity.
