Tristan [TT] Carey of the Colonial Beach Drifters has been named the “Player of the Year” in Region-A, for boys’ basketball. Carey has dazzled the entire area and Region with his amazing basketball skills throughout his successful career, and now he’s topped it off by adding this trophy to his collection as the Region’s best.
Carey averaged close to 30 points a game, scored an incredible 802 points in his senior season, became the all-time scoring leader at Colonial Beach High School with 2,400 points. And he’s not done yet, as the high impact player heads into State competition this weekend. Carey also averaged close to 10 rebounds a game, five assists, 10 deflections and six steals.
Drifter boys’ varsity head coach Steve Swope affectionately calls Carey the face of his basketball program, and an extraordinary young student/athlete for our community to be proud of.
Carey’s teammate, Farinet was named to the second team All-Region, as he provided a combination of skills that mesmerized his rivals, night in and night out. Farinet averaged over 20 points per game, scored over 500 points total on the season. In addition, he averaged 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals per game to delight Drifter fans every game.
“Dylan is the most fundamentally skilled kid I’ve ever coached,” coach Swope said. “Dylan can beat you in so many different ways—he plays the game with his head, his heart and allows his strength to overcome his opponents.”
First Team All-Region-A: David Copeland – Chesterfield Community; Darius Robinson – Northampton; John Dille – Essex; Donzell Shearin – Franklin; TT Carey – Colonial Beach [MVP].
