CB Drifters stay alive in post-season playoff hunt

At Monroe Park in Colonial Beach, it was time for a celebration on Friday. Whether it was the crowning of Kiante Dickerson and Carley Graves as the homecoming king and queen, or the 14-7 victory over division rival, Essex (3-4, 2-2), life could not have been better for a Drifters fan. The festive occasion also attracted Drifter alumni, and curious scouts from opposing teams.

Drifters corral King & Queen Royal Tigers

On Monday night, in front of a captive audience, the Drifters (2-2) defeated King & Queen (1-3), 32-12. After a tough loss to Sussex Central last week, the Drifters redeemed themselves on both sides of the ball. Whether it was another banner rushing night by running back Dion Gonzalez or a game-changing interception by Tim McDowney, the Black & Gold left no doubt that they are a true competitor in the Northern Neck Division.

Sussex Central Tigers slip past CB Drifters

Last Friday at Monroe Park, it was a first quarter shootout as the Drifters (1-2) fought a brave battle against Region-A rivals Sussex Central (2-0). Although the “Black & Gold” led for three quarters, the Tigers reached deep within their physicality to pull out a hard-fought battle and defeat the Drifters 28-21.

Swope takes over as CBHS athletic director

The Drifters sports programs will not miss beat because they are in good hands. The stewardship of athletic director is now in the hands of area sports icon Steve Swope.

Swope replaces Jeremy Jack who has gone on to replace Dan Dickey at Caroline High School in the position of athletic director. Prior to Jack’s three-year tenure as the Drifter’s athletic director, Colonial Beach School Board member Wayne Kennedy held the position for 39 years.
