Colonial Beach Drifters fall to Essex Trojans, 6-1

On Friday, at the hostile confines of Essex High School, in Tappahannock, the Drifters varsity baseball team lost to the Trojans, 6-1. Although the Drifters played a solid game defensively, they came up short on the offensive end.

The Drifters fell short during three scoring opportunities to cut into the Trojan lead, in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but only managed to plate one run. Trojan relief pitcher, Ricky Baughman pitched out of first and third, bases loaded situations. He also survived Drifter threats in the second inning to preserve the victory.

Steve Swope honored with Northern Neck Sports Wall of Fame enshrinement

It was a day inspired with Drifter pride. Saturday, April 16 will forever be a momentous day in Colonial Beach Sports history.

After 32 years of coaching in the Colonial Beach School system, Steve Swope was inducted with three other sports notables into the 12th annual Northern Neck Sports Wall of Fame induction program. Swope is the first person from the Colonial Beach area to be inducted into the sports shrine.

CB Drifters sweep MSFD in home opener

On Saturday at Monroe Park in Colonial Beach, the varsity Drifters baseball team opened the season with a doubleheader sweep over the Maryland School for the Deaf (MSFD). The Drifters capitalized on MSFD pitching, by focusing on producing runs and playing solid defense.
