Foxes girls’ soccer battle Chargers

Friday proved to be a tough night for the Foxes junior varsity and varsity girls’ soccer teams. During an away game, at Chancellor High School both teams fought valiantly before losing to the host Chargers.
The varsity’s 8-0 loss is not indicative of their season or their recent history against Chancellor. In fact, the last time they faced the Chargers, the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Prior to the game, on the Tuesday, the Foxes defeated James Monroe, 8-1, for the first time in seven years.
“Our overall progress is good, and the team is coming along every day,” Foxes head coach Dustin Piper said. “You see better touches on the ball, but unfortunately we couldn’t put anything together this evening.”
Thus far this season, the Foxes have scored 35 points,

with 23 points scored against them.
As fate would have it, district standout, Tiffany Dubek had one of the best nights of her high school career. Dubek consistently penetrated the Foxes defense to score a total of four goals.
Other goals were scored by Melody Rotonde, Ashley Beechum, Greer Trainum, and Ashley Kaiser. Currently, the Chargers have an overall record of 6-3-2.
Prior to the 2-0 Charger loss, the Foxes junior varsity (4-2-2) won four games in a row. Currently, Chancellor is tied with Courtland atop the Battlefield Division with an overall record of 6-2-2.
Chancellor attempted 20 shots against the Foxes goalie, Christian Porter. As a result, after four saves, only two shots, courtesy of goals by Marissa Anthony (14.45, first half) and Michelle Bizeretti (midway, second half), got past the Foxes’ young goalie.
Elated with his team’s victory, Charger head coach Randle Pierce said, “They play for each other, because we’re down a few substitutes. When we get injured during a game, we have to help pick each other up - we don’t have that many options,”
Defensively, after giving up only seven goals all season, the Foxes are solid. Currently they are tied for third place in the district. The team is made up of 8th, 9th, and 10th graders who truly understand the team concept of hard work. “They are doing a great job,” Foxes junior varsity head coach  Alyssa Endress said. “Their ball handling skills are getting better, and their passing has improved.”
On Friday, the Foxes travel to Culpeper. Game time is 5:30 p.m. Results of the Tuesday home game featuring Eastern View were not available.
