KG Foxes dispose of Black Hawks in doubleheader

The King George High School baseball team is the hottest ticket in town. In light of the Foxes offense, and the 90 plus mile an hour fastball sensation, Damion Carroll’s perfect game performance against Brooke Point (2-9) on Friday afternoon, it’s relatively safe to say that the Foxes are on a path to a district championship.

After sweeping the triple-A Commonwealth Division Black Hawks during Friday’s double-header, 10-0, 11-1, the heat is on for district contending teams such as Spotsylvania, and Caroline, if they hope to keep pace with the Foxes. When you consider that the Foxes pitching staff’s ERA is barely over a digit, and with the minor exception of the recent

Spotsylvania game, the offense has dominated their rivals at the plate.

Given the auspicious fact that 2012 is the 25th anniversary of the last time the Foxes won a district title, life in the Battlefield District is just about to get interesting.

Game ONE
Game one featured five flawless innings from Carroll, and another solid performance of clutch hitting from the Foxes.
The RBI fly ball from Dylan Dombrowskas in the bottom of the first inning served as an omen of bad things to come for the visiting Brooke Point Black Hawks. What seemed like a pitcher’s duel between Black Hawk ace Joe Trio, and Carroll, soon ended in the bottom of the third inning, as Matthew Hunt unloaded a towering base clearing triple to give the Foxes a 4-0 lead.

Later in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Foxes, courtesy of a RBI hit from David Hunt, a triple run scoring hit from Carroll and a RBI single from Dombrowskas, had compiled 7-0 lead. With two runners aboard, Michael Hundley slammed an RBI base clearing single into center field, giving the Foxes a 9-0 lead. The Foxes won the game after David Hunt scored the winning run on a wide pitch from Black Hawk reliever, Corey Stoneman.

Game Two
With the exception of two hits and one unearned run, game two was nearly a repeat of the previous game. Game two produced an uncompromising pitching performance from Dustin Phillips ( two hits, three walks), who has a zero ERA, and the return of Lex Estes to the Foxes pitching rotation.

In the bottom of the first inning, King George scored three runs on a center field homerun from Carroll, an RBI double from Zak Kegley, and an RBI sacrifice fly from Matthew Hunt.

The Black Hawks threatened to produce two runs in the top of the second inning, but Phillips forced a fly ball from Hudson Center to close out the inning.

The Foxes exploded for three additional runs on two errors from the Black Hawks, and two doubles from Dombrowskas, and Kegley to extend the Foxes lead to 6-0.

The Black Hawks’ lone run came from a dropped third strike in the top of the third inning, that scored Ryan Afman.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, with three runners aboard, Carroll cleared the bases with a double into center field. Combined with Carroll’s double, and a throwing error from the Black Hawks, the Foxes scored three additional runs. After a sacrifice ground ball from Matthew Hunt, the Foxes were comfortably ahead, 10-1.
The Foxes scored the game’s final run on a hit and run play, where Lex Estes crushed a single into right field, scoring Jordi Estes.

The Foxes host Courtland, on Friday, April 20; results of the Tuesday afternoon away game featuring Caroline and King George were not available due to press deadlines.
