KG JV Foxes roll past Spotsy Knights

The Foxes junior varsity football team is proof positive that the junior varsity program can have a huge impact on the varsity level. Last Wednesday, at Hunter Field, the Foxes (2-1) used their big play style of offense to pummel the visiting Spotsylvania Knights, 49-7.

From his quarterback position, De’Quan Whiting lit up the scoreboard with thrown

touchdowns, and one score rushing. Throughout the game, six different Foxes caught, ran, or threw a touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, with the exception of one drive, the Foxes never allowed the Knights to penetrate their red-zone.

In the first quarter, after an apparent 75-yard touchdown was reduced to a drive that began deep in the heart of Knight territory, Whiting completed a 24-yard touchdown to Antwan Brown. After a missed extra point attempt, King George led 6-0.

On the ensuing possession, with less than four minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Foxes capitalized on a Knight turnover. On the very next play, Marquis Johnson busted through the Knight line for a 25-yard touchdown.

In the second quarter, after a 66-yard run, Fox fullback, Zach King scored from six yards out to extend the Foxes lead, 26-0.

With time running out in the first half, Jacolby White gave the Foxes another opportunity to score with a 32-yard run to the Knight eight-yard line, which set up a Whiting to Trevor Parr eight-yard touchdown.

Later on a punt return, with 13 seconds left in the half, Johnson sealed the Knights’ fate with a 36-yard touchdown. After a two-point conversion, King George led 42-0, going into the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Knights were able to avoid the shutout with a three-yard touchdown by Naquan Smith. Later in the quarter, Foxes running back Jaylen Brinson scored 29-yard touchdown to complete the scoring. After a successful point after, the final was score was 49-7.

On Wednesday, the Foxes junior varsity travel will play Chancellor, while their varsity counterparts will celebrate their homecoming by hosting Chancellor at Hunter Field. Junior varsity game time is 7 p.m., while the varsity is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
