KG JV Lady Foxes are perfect Battlefield District Champions

The King George JV Lady Foxes are the Battlefield Champions for the second year in a row.  To make it even more impressive, they are undefeated.  They completed the season with 16 wins and no losses.
King George traveled to Spotsylvania to take on the Lady Knights for the third time this season.  Seeded Number 1, the Foxes were the home team for the District Championship game.  To win the title, the Foxes would have to win a third time against a strong Spotsylvania team.
The Knights jumped out to a one-run lead in the first inning as King George allowed one run on three errors.  The Foxes failed to score in the bottom of the first.  Spotsy was three up, three down in the second.  King George had two runners reach base in their half but couldn’t score.

The third inning was the turning point in the game as the Knights slashed two singles to the outfield but couldn’t push a run across the plate.  Not so for the Foxes as they wrapped four hits around four walks and four errors to steamroll Spotsylvania with eleven runs.  The King George scoring machine was in high gear again now leading by a score of 11-1.
The fourth and fifth innings went quickly for the Lady Knights as they went three up, three down.  This was the result of tight defense from the King George infield and solid pitching from Jessie Middleton.  Those same innings were productive for the Foxes, pounding out three hits in their fourth to add another run to the total.  The next inning was even better as the King George offense punched two singles to the outfield to extend the lead to 14-1.
Spotsylvania was not about to quit.  Regrouping, the Knights, gifted with three errors, surrounded them with two singles drilled over the Foxes infield.  Three runs scampered home bringing the score to 14-4, King George.  Then Spotsy held the Foxes to a three up, three down inning.
Entering the seventh inning, the spectators could see the determination in the body language of the Lady Knights.  Their first five batters reached base with four hits and a walk resulting in two runs.  Things might have been worse for the Lady Foxes except they were able to record an out at third base during a “sweet” pickle play — a successful rundown.  King George then closed out the game with an infield popup and a ground out to end the game.
The Lady Foxes third win against Spotsy was different than the previous two wins.  In the first two meetings, King George eked out two-run victories.  In this final meeting, the Foxes “scoring machine” was back on track, recording their usual 13-14 runs — and winning big!  It was obvious the team was determined to post a more decisive victory!  The Foxes wanted to leave no doubt as to who was the best team.
The Hitting and RBI information that follows, gives a clear picture of the King George JV Softball teams potent offense.  It is typical of their season’s games.
Leading the hitting offense was Natalie Draper with three hits while Alli Trainum and Jessie Middleton had two hits each.  Additional support came from Kiersten Sydnor, Eleni Johnson, Kari McCullough and Mehigan Koenigsberg each adding a hit.
The scoring came from Natalie Draper and Ashley MacGregor with two RBIs each and Kiersten Sydnor, Jessie Middleton, Mehigan Koenigsberg, Eleni Johnson, Kari McCullough and Alli Trainum with one RBI each.
Immediately following the game, the King George JV Lady Softball Foxes were awarded the Battlefield District Trophy.  After photos were taken of the award ceremony, the girls were surprised with the presentation of T-shirts commemorating their incredible 16-0 undefeated season.   A truly great year and, as noted by a couple Fox Varsity players, “Those JV girls can really play some softball.”
Every JV player should be extremely proud of their achievement.  A winning season is always a sign of success; an undefeated season is a rare triumph of real note.
