KGHS girls' tennis team is undefeated and having a ball
What difference a year makes. After finishing fourth in the District last season, the Lady Foxes have returned stronger than ever. A new coach, a strong roster of talented players have all made a difference.
The King George High School girls’ tennis program [5-0] is currently undefeated and having the best season in years. After defeating Spotsylvania, Eastern View, Chancellor, Caroline and Rappahannock, the Foxes are a legitimate threat to overtake notable District favorites such as Courtland, James Monroe and Chancellor for the title this season.
Captains and the teams’ top seeds for this year are seniors’ Clare Shippee [#1], Bethany Cobb [#2], Brooklyn Cobb [#3], and Molly Dibble [#4]. Also, Brook Little and Alyssa Williams are the teams’ 4th and 5th seeds respectively.
As for double seeding, Brooke and Bethany Cobb are seeded number one, while Clare Shippee and Molly Dibble occupy the number two seed.
First year coach, and King George High School Physical Education teacher, Pamela Shea is excited about the team’s potential and what effect it will have on upcoming talent. “These seniors are strong and they are tough girls,” Shea said, “They fight for every point and they do have the skills to win the District.”
Is the Foxes girls’ tennis team the best in spring sports at their school presently? The answer will soon unfold as the season comes to an end. “Even when they play against formidable competition, they handle the pressure very well,” Shea said.
