Foxes JV volleyball soars into the top three in Battlefield district

If the Fox junior varsity volleyball (13-5, 8-4) team defeats Courtland on Tuesday, they could advance to the upcoming District tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
The tournament, hosted by King George High School, will feature two of the following teams: King George, Courtland, and Spotsylvania.

After Tuesday’s 25-20, 26-24 win over the Spotsylvania Knights for the season, the Foxes’ chances for post-season play have taken a giant step towards a showdown with Courtland in the finals.
In addition, on Friday, the Foxes defeated Caroline in two games.
With the exception of Courtland, the Foxes have beaten every team in the Battlefield District. The Cougars are a sophomore-heavy team capable of playing on the varsity level.

Foxes vs. Knights game 1
In the opening game, the Foxes capitalized on five Knight passing errors, and three Fox kills to jump out to a 9-6 lead.
Midway through the game, the Foxes were able to sustain a 14-10 lead over the Knights by forcing the visitors from the west into three passing errors, a net violation, and one kill.
Later in the game, after trailing by 20-13, the Knights responded with three forced Fox passing errors, a Fox serving error, and a kill by Becky Lord to cut the lead to a two point deficit (20-18).
In spite of the sudden Knight surge, the Foxes kept their poise, and closed the game out on a kill and ace by Abbey Davis. In addition, the Knights committed a serving error, and a net violation, which contributed to the Foxes 25-20 victory.

Foxes vs. Knights game 2
Desperate to avoid a two game Fox sweep, Knight middle hitter, Ashlyn Green sparked a 5-2 run with an ace. The run also included three King George passing errors, and a net violation.
After an exchange of points, the Foxes tied the game at 7-7 on a kill by Micayla Peterson, a Knight serving error, and three Knight passing errors.
Minutes later, after trailing by seven points, the Foxes slowly cut the Knight lead down to 14-13, with an ace by Kayliegh Stevenson, a net violation, and two passing errors.
Refusing to submit, the Knights fought back with eight long possession exchanges that resulted in a 21-15 lead.
After a timeout, the Foxes regrouped to regain their familiar swagger. For the next 10 minutes the Foxes ruled the court, to methodically cut the Knight deficit to one, and ultimately tied the game at 22-22.
After two lead exchanges, Amber Breeden crushed an ace, and a soft serve that resulted in a forced Knight error to give the Foxes the game, and match victory (26-24).
