Foxes middle school football topples Culpeper Cougars

On Thursday, the King George High School stadium was buzzing with middle school football action.

By the time the second half had begun it was apparent that Culpeper would suffer their fifth loss of the season. The 32-6 victory was the result of a well-balanced King George offensive and defensive attack. “I thought our boys came out very intense, and played with extreme confidence, especially on the new field” King George Middle School head coach Chris Zylonis said. “Culpeper is one of the better teams, and we dominated them in my opinion.” The win improved the Foxes’ overall season record to 7-1.
On fourth down during Culpeper’s opening drive, the Foxes special teams came up with a big play when Cyrus Fletcher blocked a Cougar punt that was recovered by Aston Howard for a 27-yard touchdown.
Later in the first quarter, as the Cougars offense continued to sputter, the Foxes were clicking on all cylinders. King George’s 81-yard scoring drive was culminated with a Chris Levere 10-yard touchdown run.

With less than a minute to play in the first quarter, Jordan Aley scored from eight yards out. The touchdown was set up by a 13-yard run by Kyree Garrett.
In the remaining seconds of the first half, Devon Williams intercepted a Cougar pass that cemented a 20-0 Fox first half lead.
During their opening third quarter drive, the Foxes extended their lead to 26-0, as Chris Levere carried the ball five times for 24-yards. He later caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Logan Taylor for the score.
With 5:12 left in the game, Aley scored the Foxes final touchdown to give King George the win. As for Culpeper, with 49 seconds left they scored their lone touchdown and avoided a shutout, as Malik Roy completed a 25-yard touchdown to Blake Jenkins.
The Foxes middle school football team is the future of the KGHS football program. With the exception of Floyd T. Binns, the significance of the Culpeper victory is that the Foxes have proven that they have beaten every school on their schedule.
To date, the Foxes have scored 223 points, with only 14 points scored against them. In addition, the Foxes have shut out four teams this season.
The Foxes will host Locust Grove Middle School on Thursday, Nov. 1. Game time is 6 p.m.
