The 2012 King George girls’ cross-country team has set the stage for being the top girls’ cross-country team in the area. Apart from winning the recent Fredericksburg All-Area meet that featured some of the top triple-A schools in the area, the Foxes have gone undefeated in district competition.

A few words of advice and caution to King George High School’s football opponents: Try to avoid meeting the Foxes after they have suffered a disappointment as they can be a bit rabid.
Spotsylvania High’s Knights unfortunately served as a clear example of what can happen when the Foxes are mad. The result last Friday night was a 59-0 drubbing, courtesy of Foxes’ Corey Henderson, Alon Clipper, Jacob Baker, Deshon Brown, Jordi Estes, Xavier James, David Hutt, and Austin Fisk.

On Friday evening, at Maury Stadium, in Fredericksburg, in spite of injuries to three quarterbacks, defending Division I, Region III champion James Monroe (2-0, 5-0) handed district nemesis King George its 11th consecutive loss since 2001. Call it a Yellow Jacket curse or just plain ole bad luck, James Monroe trailed the Foxes (1-1, 4-1) by six points with just 3:13 left in the game.

It was a night to remember! On Friday evening, in front of a standing room only crowd, the Foxes gave the fan faithful a sample of what they have waited for. They opened the Battlefield District regular season with a resounding 21-10 victory over the Courtland Cougars (1-3, 0-1). More importantly, the win was also the beginning of a new era in King George High School (KGHS) sports. With the long awaited debut of the new stadium, fans witnessed a once in a lifetime experience.
After spending most of his athletic career on the courts and fields associated with KGHS, Fox varsity head coach Jeff Smith is overjoyed to give Fox fans a program capable of going beyond district post-season play.

Their path to glory will be revisited on Thursday, October 11th, at King George High School. The 1973 undefeated KGHS girls basketball team, Linda Morrisette Failes, George Toliver, coach Eugene Fields, and Jermon Bushrod will be officially enshrined into the King George High School Sports Hall of Fame. The new inductees will join the cast of 2010, and 2011 enshinees. Ticket information will be announced soon.
2012 KGHSSHOF Inductees
Jermon Bushrod single-handedly put the community of King George on the map. The 2002 graduate of KGHS gave both young and old a reason to smile as he helped lead the Foxes basketball and football teams on a path to success.
The three-sports standout helped the Foxes football program achieve back-to-back Regional playoff berths (2000, 2001); helped the Foxes reach the final four of the 2002 Group AA State basketball championship; Honorable Mention All State Football, Honorable Mention All State Baseball; Battlefield District Champion basketball team.
