KG Post 89 baseball 2013 season outlook

It’s a new day for Post 89! Entering his 11th season as Post 89 King George American Legion baseball head coach, Al Landino is optimistic that his pitcher-loaded staff of 18 players will live up to the old adage of good pitching will beat good hitting any day. “We have a good quality team this year, with 18 guys that can play,” Landino said.

Lewis organizes Pope’s Creek 1K and 5K races

Despite a light rain, the Annual Popes Creek 1K and 5K races, held at George Washington’s Birthplace in Westmoreland County, and hosted by Washington and Lee High School’s Cross Country Team, went off without a hitch.

Hannah Pierce continues to capture the spotlight both on and off the golf course. The Longwood University junior was named to the 2012-2013 All-Big South Women’s Academic Team.

The King George High School alumni has a 76.77 golf scoring average including two top-five performances

Carey voted Lancer Male Athlete of the Year

Longwood junior and Colonial Beach High School alumni, Tristan Carey was recently named as the Lancers’ Male Athlete of the Year. The 6-4 guard on the men’s basketball team averaged 15.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, while starting in 32 games. Carey posted 26 double-figure scoring games, along with one 40-point game, three 30-point games, eight 20-point games, and two double doubles.
