George Washington Birthplace National Monument hosted the Rappahannock Tribe for the Birthplace’s American Indian Heritage Day celebration on Saturday, Aug. 17.
The tribe members demonstrated traditional dances and drumming for the record number of guests to come to the park that day.
Left a young man demonstrates the “Grass Dance” depicting the young man blessing the soil in anticipation for the bounty it will bring to him and his people.
Right a young woman demonstrates the “Butterfly Dance” a dance that expresses renewal and thanks for new life, seasons and new beginnings
