The Pakistan super league (PSL) director, Usman Wahla, came to Karachi on Saturday to monitor the preparations for the Pakistan super league (PSL) 8 matches at the National Bank Cricket Arena.
According to sources, a sizable bill from the provincial government pushed the Pakistan cricket board (PCB) to think about transferring the Punjab leg of PSL 8 to Karachi.
The Decision By PCB & Franchises
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and PSL franchises unanimously decided to forgo paying the Punjab government an additional 450 million rupees on Friday.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight matches in Punjab have been promised “full support” by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, Najam Sethi.
The event happened when Sethi contacted the premier, who also serves as the patron-in-chief of the PCB, on Sunday to inform him of the impasse with the interim Punjab administration.
The Conversation
During his conversation with prime minister Shehbaz, sethi allegedly claimed that the PCB would not pay the extra cost of security measures. He added that if the Punjab government doesn’t back down, the PCB will be forced to transfer matches to Karachi.
Recall that on Friday, the Pakistan cricket board and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchisees decided not to provide the Punjab authorities with an additional Rs450 million.
Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, the interim chief minister of Punjab, declared that the regional cabinet is now opposed to the bill’s exception. On Saturday, though, a government meeting was convened to talk about the issue.
Naqvi’s Statement
According to Naqvi, Rs600 million was spent on security measures for PSL games in Punjab the previous year. “We don’t have the power to give such a large sum of money because this arrangement is transitory. The cabinet is also opposed to such spending.”
Lahore will host nine games, while Rawalpindi will host 11 games, based on the current schedule. Lahore will also host the award ceremony, final, and playoff games.
If indeed the bill is not dropped, the matches will be formally transferred to Karachi. In the interim, the franchisees and the modified timeframe have been arranged.
