Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the show’s creators, consistently told fans in the lead-up to the series premiere that the adaptation would honour the original video game, retaining the popular story’s fundamental narrative beats while adapting some components for the new medium.
Episode 6 recreates key scenes from the game, including Joel’s reunion with Tommy in Wyoming. Even though the episode shifts the location of their moment to the fully functional settlement of Jackson, Wyoming, the attack on Joel and Ellie is radically different in the end.
Joel and Ellie arrive at the University of Eastern Colorado to find it deserted, similar to the video game The Last of Us. They search the campus for proof of the Fireflies and the location of another base, but there are no survivors.
